Tanure Ojaide, Frank Porter Graham Professor of Africana Studies at UNC Charlotte, is co-recipient of the 2018 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa for his book, "Songs of Myself."

Philosopher Receives Fellowship to Study Structural Racism, Linguistic Communication
Andrea Pitts, an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at UNC Charlotte, has received a six-month Career Enhancement Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. With the fellowship, Pitts will work on a book project in fall 2018, analyzing structural racism and linguistic communication.
Researcher Pinku Mukherjee Receives UNC Charlotte's Most Prestigious Research Award
Irwin Belk Endowed Professor for Cancer Research Pinku Mukherjee is the 2018 recipient of the First Citizens Bank Scholars Medal, UNC Charlotte’s most prestigious faculty award in recognition of excellence in research. Mukherjee, who also is chair of the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, is a leader in transforming how cancer is diagnosed and treated.
History Professor Earns Georgia Archives Honor
Gregory Mixon, professor of history, recently received the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council Award for Excellence in Research Using the Holdings of Archives. He was honored for the book, “Show Thyself a Man: Georgia State Troops, Colored, 1865-1905.”
Biological Sciences Doctoral Student Earns International Scholarship
Mukulika Bose, a doctoral student in biological sciences, has received a 2018 P.E.O. International Scholarship from the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an organization focused on helping women around the world participate in graduate study in the U.S. and Canada. Bose is a member of Pinku Mukherjee’s lab in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Global Studies Professor Awarded Prestigious Luce/ACLS Fellowship
Joyce Dalsheim, a cultural anthropologist in the Department of Global Studies, has been selected as a 2018 Luce/ACLS Fellow in Religion, Journalism & International Affairs. She will use her ethnographic research in Israel/Palestine to engage in a critical examination of the relationship between sovereignty and liberation, focusing on questions of religion and religious freedom. Her work adds new perspective to a broad set of interdisciplinary conversations on secularism and citizenship in the modern world.
French Professor Receives Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching
Michele Bissière from UNC Charlotte’s Department of Languages and Cultural Studies in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is among the recipients of the 2018 UNC Board of Governors Awards for Excellence in Teaching.
